How to Create Memorable Events
Hosting a Party of 2 to a Conference of 200+, the 5 Keys to Making it MEMORABLE!
There are 5 KEYS or “P”’s for putting together a MEMORABLE event, whether it’s for a party of two, a casual gathering, a family gathering, a milestone event, or a business event, there are essential pieces for making it most meaningful and memorable, i.e., making an IMPACT for good.
My husband, Gino Goe, and I have been told that we have a special gift, the gift of Hospitality. We have been hosting parties, BBQ’s and special events throughout our lives - Gino with his family in Illinois, mine with my family in California, he with an Italian cultural influence, mine with a Japanese cultural influence.
Together we bring people together with invitation, communication, FOOD! and interaction that shows authentic interest in others and acknowledge their value. We want each person to feel valued and to have an enjoyable time.
What comes very naturally to Gino and I, we have been told, is not so “natural” for others. In fact, what we do drives some people to having feelings of intimidation or anxiety just thinking about what they think it is like to host events. Notice, that I say “what they think”, because, maybe they have some misconceptions of what it takes to plan an event. So - the purpose of this article is to share what goes into planning and executing memorable gatherings and special events in attainable terms, so that you too will feel more comfortable going forward with planning an event - inviting even just a few people as a start to breaking through the art of hospitality and enjoying the benefits.
Some Things to Think About:
What is the Value of Gatherings and Special Events?
Creating memorable events is a fantastic way to build both relationships and community. Whether it's an intimate dinner for two or a bustling conference with hundreds of attendees, these gatherings offer invaluable benefits that far surpass any initial jitters. Let's explore some compelling reasons why hosting events is essential, along with insights from the Bible.
Fostering Genuine Connections:
Events create a space for people to truly connect with one another, building relationships that go beyond casual acquaintances. When we feel seen and valued, our bonds grow stronger. As Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Your event can be an opportunity for people to sharpen and support each other.
Cultivating a Sense of Belonging:
Bringing people together in shared experiences cultivates a sense of belonging and community. It's about connecting individuals with something larger than themselves. In Romans 12:5, we are reminded, "so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Events can remind people of their place and purpose within the community.
Creating Lasting Memories:
Memorable events are catalysts for unforgettable moments and stories that live on in the hearts of attendees. These experiences can serve as a strong foundation for future relationships. The Psalmist reflects this in Psalm 77:11, "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago." Similarly, your event can be remembered for its positive impact.
Building Trust and Collaboration:
Events open doors for collaboration, allowing individuals to work together towards common goals, thereby building trust. According to Ecclesiastes 4:9, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor." Collaboration during events strengthens relationships and enhances community ties.
Encouraging Growth and Learning:
Hosting events offers a platform for learning from others and personal growth. Participants can discover new perspectives and skills, enriching their lives and the community. Proverbs 9:9 wisely advises, "Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning." Your event could be a starting point for ongoing personal and communal development.
Embrace the opportunity to create memorable events, knowing that the fears or hesitations you might have are small compared to the immense positive impact your events will have on relationships and community building.
